Nikoleta Sremac is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Minnesota. She is a cultural and political sociologist of post-war societies, studying the intersections of gender, nation-building, social movements, and politics of memory after state violence and genocide. Her dissertation project examines these relationships in the aftermath of the 1990s Yugoslav wars in Serbia. Her work has appeared in the American National Biography, Women’s Policy Journal of Harvard, Society Pages, and InkStick Media, and has been funded by the U.S. Institute of Peace-Minerva Research Initiative, UMN Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship, and Badzin Fellowship in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.
