Position - Finance Manager
General Summary
The Finance Manager, Moosehaven, is responsible for the oversight of the financial health of the organization, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Key responsibilities include managing and mentoring the finance team, ensuring effective delegation of tasks and fostering professional development. The preparation and presentation of financial reports to executive management, providing insights that influence decision-making processes, is a crucial role within this position.
Essential Job Functions
- Working with the Executive Director, creates an overall financial plan, financial policies and general accounting practices to ensure optimal management of financial resources and the timely and accurate accounting of financial transactions in accordance with requirements for Non-Profit Retirement and Long Term Care Organizations: periodically evaluates plan, policies, and practices, develops alternatives and recommends changes as needed.
- Oversee audits and ensure that all financial practices and workpapers are prepared timely to align with the organization's goals, compliance requirements, and deadlines set as outlined by Executive Director and/or Moose International CEO or CFO.
- Ensure adherence to financial regulations and standards, including tax compliance and financial reporting requirements.
- Provides accounting services to residents including resident banking, estate fund management and preparation of resident's income tax.
- Provides supervisors with routine status reports and advises supervisors of significant issues that jeopardize the achievement of organizational and functional objectives.
- Develops and monitors internal financial controls; prepares meaningful, timely, and accurate internal and external individual and consolidated financial statements; ensures the accuracy of general ledger inputs and verifies the accuracy and timeliness of disbursements.
- Oversees research of Medicare eligibility to pay the resident's portion to providers to ensure continued care of residents.
- Manages the preparation and timely filing of all required tax and regulatory reports of a financial nature.
- Manages the budgeting function for Moosehaven: organizes budgeting systems and procedures for compiling, monitoring, and analyzing annual budget plans monitors actual performance against budget and provides executive management with reports to track revenues and expenditures against budget.
- Oversees and assists Finance staff in the daily operations ensuring a clear understanding of each role's tasks and completion.
- Perform day-to-day general accounting activities ensuring compliance with established accounting policies (US GAAP, internal policies) and procedures.
- Provide support for special projects and ad hoc analyses.
Supervisory Requirements
Finance Manager directly supervises 5 staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal skills to communicate effectively with the Moosehaven Board of Directors, all levels of organizational leadership, vendors and employees.
- Ability to comprehend complex ideas, develop solutions to problems and analyze quantitative data.
- Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision, cooperate within a team and work under stress while successfully handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Not-for-Profit accounting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulations.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (financial closure, reporting, internal controls, etc.) and payroll.
- Ability to take initiative and work effectively with multiple teams.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, with career progression in an accounting function.
- Preferred experience with Healthcare Accounting, financial management, preferably within a non-profit setting.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders are preferred.
- Proficiency in financial software and fund accounting principles is preferred.
- Direct supervisory experience, including feedback, coaching, and developing staff.
Working Conditions
- This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
- This is a largely sedentary role; however, filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
- Typical days of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m. but extended days and weekends are required to complete projects or as needed. This position is also required to work scheduled holidays and campus events as scheduled by the Executive Director.
- Able to lift to 25 pounds independently.
