Job Description
The Director of Finance is responsible for the delivery of cost effective and efficient accounting and financial systems, policies, and processes that support the needs of all the locations and entities of New Life.
Job Duties:
- Responsible for managing the finance team in the receipts, deposits, and disbursement of all church funds; develop and monitor performance objectives for the finance department.
- Act as corporate Treasurer and provide support to multiple entities - New Life Community Church, New Life Properties, and New Life Cities International.
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate and accurate financial records, ensuring that proper financial management procedures and integrity are in place, and ensuring that New Life is following Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable federal and state laws.
- Establish and maintain proper internal financial controls and policies, including proper separation of duties.
- Responsible for daily, weekly cash flow management and reporting, including accounts payable and receivables and all cash, stock, and non-cash contributions; reconcile cash accounts and maintain sufficient bank balances.
- Responsible for production of accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and statements.
- Responsible for maintenance of contribution records and reporting of same to contributors on an annual basis.
- Responsible for ensuring restricted donations are properly recorded and that assets are released in accordance with time and purpose restrictions.
- Responsible for oversight and monthly filing and reporting of the State of IL Sales and Use Tax.
- Responsible for the collection of location data to support location dashboard reporting.
- Oversight of event funds including deposits, contracts, check requests and reporting.
- Responsible for direction of the annual budget process; assist pastoral staff and financial advisors in the preparation of location budgets. Support the activities of the financial advisors throughout the year.
- Management and oversight of an annual independent audit of New Life's accounting records and practices.
- Responsible for preparation of year-end financial reports.
- Responsible for issuance of annual 1099 Forms and their filing with corresponding 1096 Forms.
- Own and maintain the financial database; make recommendations for process improvements.
- Provide financial data and support to all New Life locations as needed.
- Direct activities of the independent Compensation and Financial Audit Committee of NLCC.
- Responsible for management of New Life's credit card holders' administration and usage policies.
- Manage banking and other finance-related vendor relationships ensuring favorable arrangements; negotiate services.
- Oversight of reimbursement arrangements for New Life employees living abroad.
- Responsible for safekeeping of all funds, securities, and fiduciary documents of the church including proper record retention practices.
- Manage New Life investments in cooperation with a designated investment team. Provide an investment portfolio report on a quarterly basis.
Skills/Qualifications:
- A spiritually mature Christian in full agreement with New Life's statement of faith. Must be an active member of New Life with strong ties to our mission and values.
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited educational institution.
- 3 years practical experience in non-profit, fund-based accounting and account reconciliation.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including Word and Excel, and specific fund-based accounting software.
- Attention to detail and precision in account reconciliation and report generation.
- A commitment to good interpersonal relationships, teamwork and support of church ministries.
- A commitment to confidentiality regarding all account records, both church and staff, and the members.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
